In news reports the producers try to use six different conventions to
set the reports out different from each other. The conventions used are:

Theses six conventions are the main ones that news reports try to use
when they cover a story. Each one of the conventions is set up to link together
when it comes to the editing before it is then broadcast.
This news report is a link to the studio from Sderot, Israel. One of the
conventions used in this news report is Field Reports. A field report is when
they embed a reporter at the heart of the situation. Throughout the whole news
report/ interview the costume that was worn was a light blue shirt to show
enemies that he is press and not a target as the reporter was in the heart of
Israel action. The levels of involvement shown by the reporter was high because
he gave his own opinions and backed them up by show a video at 0:46. The level
of involvement was quite high as the reporter was from Israel and wanted to
show pride in his country for retaliation. The choice of the presenter is n
important task they want to relate to the situation and have their own views
that won’t change depending on the change of situation. However the news
reporter in Israel gender was male because you wouldn't associate a female with
war or any type of fighting for their country. The ethnicity of the reporter is
from Israel and is white. On the other hand the graphics at 0:06 are showing
the different story's in the day with a moving to the left animation. Also at
0:06 sky news were advertising the different means to stay in touch with them
when the reporter was on the field. Within this video you can also clearly see
a link to the studio throughout the video. On the top right of the screen at
1:17 you can see they provide the audience with reinsurance that the news
report is live and not pre-recorded. The location is the same as the graphic of
"live" the location is also next to the "live" graphic at
1:18 say the location "Israel". Throughout the whole news report the
camera stayed on mid shot on both reporters. The report structure in news
report was quite a simple one because they would have the link to the studio
and ask questions about the filed reporter’s opinions. Right from the start of the
production the news reporter in the studio introduced himself and introduced
the field reporter so they could get straight to the point at 0:02. During the
news report there wasn't any archive footage shown to prove any of the reporter’s
points; there were no interviews form any vox pops to prove the points that the
field reporter has made. At 0:03 the news reporter in the studio introduces the
location of the field reporter and himself. However During the news report
there was actuality footage near the end of the report. At 2:22 however they
don't say who it was from in the graphics or even thanking the person. The
reason they used the footage was to prove the point that the studio reporter
had made so they are providing evidence for their claim. Not a lot was used
only from 2:22 till 2:30 8 seconds long.
This This news report is linked to the mode of address to the viewer. Also it
is linked to Interviewing experts and witnesses and even victims. The first
conversion I would be addressing is mode of address to the viewer and how they
communicate with those watching from home. The first is the victim that is
being interviewed his tone of voice varied from low to high when he really
wanted to get his point across as if he was getting angry at 0:46. For the
accent the interview was taken place in the Russian language and therefore they
needed a translator to translate for the views at home. The language used was
vocabulary that you would use in a everyday life style without any complex
terminology. The final conversion I will be looking at is interviewing experts
and witness. The camera techniques used in the news report were mid shots and
close up's to show his emotions. At 0:40 the title that was given to the victim
is TV HOST going back to his past. As Litvinenko was a expert in military defence
he did some times reply in a manner where he would refer to his past and that
was the reason he was blamed.
A docudrama is a genre of a radio or television programming. A docudrama is based on real events that has happened in the past you could also say its actors doing an re enactment of a certain event
The Queen is a good example of a docudrama because the directors take the real Queen of England life and re enact the past from her being crowned as Queen of England to her seeing her grand children born. Also some docudrama's have actors that may look like the person they are trying to portray to the audience with or with out make up.In this case the women playing as the queen looks like the current Queen when he was younger with the make up.
The Road To Guantanamo Bay is a very good example of a docudrama because they have taken a real like accident and shown it from a different point of view. From 0:18 to 0:21 the editing of the clips were very disjointed because the USA President was talking at a correspondence about take out the threat but then they would show the old prime-minster of of united kingdom just looking in to the camera. It just did not make sense because after that they would cut to a boy brushing his teeth to a voice over how his parents have found a bride for him. At 1:35 the music played in the back ground made it seemed like something else was going to happen that would change his life. This music would make the scene dramatic but then he met up with his father. At 3:30 graphics was shown on the screen to show the audience how out dated the story is to prove the innocence of the men. At 5:56 they had taken a discussion about going to Afghanistan to talk about how big "naan bread" is. By the directors doing this adds in comedy scene in to a serious story to keep the audience entertained and keep then watching till the end. At 9:20 there is archive footage with a voice over of a news report about the situation explaining what was going on at the time to guide the audience through the video clip so they can understand the story more.
Another good example of a docudrama is Dreams of a better life. This documentary was about a women who had died in her house and was left there for three years. This here is another re enactment style of documentary because they want to show to the audience that she was a living person before with out any friends so they wanted the audience to feel sorry for her
Docu Soap A docu soap is a television series based on real people going through real things that would help or change life's. This is filmed in a drama or a soap.
Dealer Ship is a docu soap because its about real people at work trying to sell cars to customer that want to buy a car. The show also consist on interviews and real expressions from the customers
999 Whats your emergency is another good example of a docu soap because its about real people in the ambulance and police force and how they respond to calls about people on a night out
Hotel India is a docu soap because it include interviews with real people and its about a real place in India and they want to show how people have to work around there and how they benefit fro working in a high class hotel. At 0:12 there is a montage with a narrative voice over as a introduction to the show and give you the line up of what the convictions of the show. At 0:30 there is a interview of a women explaining why she likes the hotel describing the room that she is currently in to make the interview flow smoothly. at 4:09 when the lady is being interviewed the imagery changes so the rest on the answer would be a voice over. At 5:28 they give the man graphics to show the audience who he is but they also give him a title to show people he is a important person. During the first 10 minuets there is a lot of voice overs to show the outside of the hotel and show how clean it is but there is also a narrative voice over to give facts to the audience
Reality
Reality TV is a genre where people are filmed on how they live how there daily life is and what drama is involved. Reality TV shows are mostly unscripted because they just let it flow and edit it all together.
A good example of reality TV is Total Divas on E!. This show is based on performers from the WWE organisation. The main aim of the show is to have some entertainment in the performers caress showing people that they have normal life's outside of the WWE where they meet friends and talk about whats been going on so in other words they gossip
Another good example is Hell's Kitchen This show is more about a chef trying to find there apprentice by giving them a rough time cooking fro people and they also show the reactions to what the chef says about them.
Jersey Shore is a good example of a reality show because it is based on five or six people living in a house together working together and partying together. During the filming of the show there is also interviews taken place about there feeling towards each other and generally what's been going on in the house at 0:33. At 0:01 there is a complication of clips for an intro with graphics of the title of show this made the show seem more professional than it already is. At 0:5 they add a scene that would make people laugh or smile barbecue of how there relationship is as friends. At 1:35 they show another montage but of the surroundings of the house and what they would see everyday to make it seem like your there as well.
WildLife:
Wildlife TV shows are shows about animals and how they live in the natural or how they live in captivity but its also a type of show were you can use CGI to re-create animals like dinosaurs and inform people about them.
Walking with Dinosaurs is a good example of CGI wildlife show because they use animations to create a dinosaurs and based on facts they would show how they hunt and how they behave
Another example is Animal Planet some episodes are filmed in the habitat of animal but some are created with CGI with habitats that they could not film in because it was to dangerous or they could to go there in time for the recording
Inside natures giants is a very good example because they don't use any animations of a animal that they were dissection the only time they would use a animation is explain part of the atoms of the giant. Most of the footage is real and reliable and able to give the audience facts to help the more of a understanding. At 0:02 there is a short montage of where white sharks live swim and eat then at 0:10 graphics come up introducing the presenter and giving him a title of scientist. At 0:15 there is archive footage of a shark swimming. They used archive footage of this because it would be to dangerous for them to film. 3:41 there is an animation of the bone structure of the shark to show the decadence as they wont see it clearly in the episode. At 7:30 there is a narrative of the presenter explaining the facts for ease of understand.
Educational Educational TV is when they are explaining topics to an audience like the examples below. However it is a form of television hat informs people about certain life styles and how people behave
Myth Busters is a good example of educational TV because they are practically teaching people how to get rid of ghost ad he teach people about the house that the ghost lives is also they each people about myth and support what they say with evidence
Another example of educational TV is Educating Essex however this form of educational TV is informing people about others life style nd how they teach them to become better people. This s a educational TV show because its teaching people how to behave and how to speak to people when your out
Horrible History's is a good example of educational TV because they are teaching children about the past and informing them with facts that wont overwhelm them that they can use them self in school. At 0:02 there is a montage to how the viewers what is coming on today's show the pace of the montage is fast to keep the viewer entertained as its for children it seems like they are trying to say we don't want you to get board. At 0:35 there is a animation to grab the viewers intention. At 0:49 the actor introduces him self ad starts to give the viewer his opinion about the time in the past. At 2:08 there is a animation of how the Saxon's got there name and where the came from. At 2:25 there is a graphic to show where they are in time and where there location is. At 4:36 they use animations to change the topic as they do not want to stay on one for long so they do not loose viewers.
Infotainment
Infotainment TV is being able to provide information but in an entertaining way to gain and have viewers watching your show
Come Dine With Me is a good example because they are showing the large amount of viewers how to cook a certain dish but with entertain aspect to it for example they get everything right but they still burn what they were cooking
Gordon Ramsey cook along is a very good example because it come on once a year at Christmas time and there is a information aspect towards it but there is also a entertainment value to it as it is on air for more than three hours. At 0:02 there is a montage of images put together to make a introduction with the main presenter in the background do the same action from the start. At 0:19 he says "let the pan get hot" then he followed up by giving a fact and reason to why you do this. during the video most of the shots are close ups of the chef because he wants to make you feel as if hes giving you eye contact so you have to listen. At 0:39 there are alot of close ups of the pan as he wants you to follow what e does with out any mistakes.
A discussion show is when there is a presenter starting of a discussion between a range of different experts. A discussion show would also consist of having a serious tone or a funny tone to it how ever the topics on the show is based on day to day topics that people talk about everyday. Discussion show would also include audience participation from people tweeting gin or phoning up.
Daily Politics is a discussion show because they have a range o experts diving there views and opinions about the country's MP's and current rules. Daily politics is also a discussion show because they debate each other about their views and why they think that. This is an good example of a discussion show because they have audience participation. The encourage the audience to stay by there party that they vote for and cheer for them. The conventions used in the show make is a discussion show such as use of experts and archive footage
Jerry Springer is a discussion show because is deals with people fighting with each other but he also helps broken family's with serious topics and ends any conflicts. With this type of discussion show you can rather have a live audience that have an emotional attachment to the victim for example when the villain come on the stage the audience "BOO" but when the victim stand up for them self the audience cheer for them. This is also a discussion show because they don't have a comedy interviews scripted its all facts given form the people with the presenter and his team trying to help them after they publicly embarrasses them to the audience and nation .
Big Brother Little Brother (BBLB)
Big Brother Little Brother is a discussion show because they deal with topics from the original sow Big Brother and they and have there own take on why the house mates act the way they do. At the start of the show at 0:05 the two presenters tell the audience what's coming up and show a expert at a different location to where she would be getting the interview. From 0:10 - 3:14 they showed the viewers a extended clip of what's the first discussion will be talking about but during the clip graphics on the screen would highlight the points that would be focused on during the discussion. At 3:37 the first expert was shown on the screen because of the plumbing and floods in the house whit some humor to it. In particular this show uses a montage at the start to show what's coming up and a complication of clips to back up there evidence. The main conventions used in this show are as the following,

When they used the conventions is very noticeable to the audience as the want to make it clear such at the editing when they show the complication of clips from 0:10 you would know that's a montage. Big Brothers Little Brother has a presenter meaning that they would have the voice over/ presenter convention as the presenter is the person that he show is focused on as they start and end the interviews. However the show also has use of experts for example when Phil was being interviewed they were the expert in the plumbing of the house giving evidence on how it happened and how it was stopped also the presenter in the show is a expert because he is the expert of the show and why the people on the show act they way they do. Interviews is used in this show because of how the show s they want to find things out about the housemates and why they act the way they do for example when they have the women at the start she is a expert of people behavior because she observes people.
At 5:25 you can hear the audience cheering on Phil as he saved the day and was clearly the hero and not villain. Also at 7:20 they show concern about other people around the country effected by the rain
so they got weather expert to explain what's going on with the patter of changes.
Review Show
A review show is the presenters of the show and expert review what has happen in an amount of time or they review a product. A review show also includes a presenter starting of the conversation and having expert back them up on there facts with evidence. A review show is when experts and presners tell people information about a topic that could help them with a buy or a play in a sport.
Gadget Show is a review show because experts on the field of technology are giving there honest opinion to the public about a certain product. On the show there are three experts all given a task 1 expert has TV's and TV products and the other two would be in the studio doing the show. This is a review show because one they give there opinion about the product two they have a discussion about why they revived it like that and three the ask for the public views on there many forums .
UK Top 40 is a review show because they are reviewing the UK's best sold artist within 7 days every week they record the number of sales for the official top 40 chats buy iTunes they also review there positing for the artist about the amount of views they have gained from steaming sites such as YouTube.UK Top 40 is a review show because they use the conversions to meet the criteria . Voice over's, Montage, Archive footage and strong and interesting idea.
Match Of The Day is a review show because right from the get go they use the experts to make them self present on the show. This is a review show more than a discussion show because the presenter and the expert review the 90 minuets played by the teams and inform people about how they should of played or what should of changed at 2:06 the show goes in to archive footage of the football match that they will be reviewing,over the video there is a voice over of commentary given by Andy Toundthen. When Match Of The Day is in the studio they review possible out comes from other plays. At 13:20 when they are back in the studio the expert gives a fact on how a play was made and they looked back and gave the evidence to prove his point. Through out this show all of the experts give there opinions and so does the presenter this is why Match Of The Day is a review show

Right from the start of the show archive footage is played because the show is about football matches that were taken placed earlier in the day. The archive footage is there to show the audience the highlights of the missed football match's you could also say match of the day is a reply show. They also prove there facts with use of experts and graphics. However they also have point of views that would be expanded on so peple would understand the terminology with imagery and graphics.
When ever the archive footage was played when the experts and presenter was proving a point they use graphics 29:36 to help people visualize who they are talking about and they also draw out with shapes were the ball should been played to inform others of a skill of tactic this simply adds more to the reviewing of play because if it was a simple discussion show not alot of people would watch it but because they have fun reviewing the match and have great "Banter" and the use of graphics make people stay this what makes a good review show. When presenting the facts the presenter hands it over the guests for them to tell the audience what they have observed and they when they present the fact they back it up with footage with evidence also voice over's are used initial in the video but the expert do another voice over to prove the point and how they should of played.

Special Interest Documentary
A special interest documentary is a normal filmed documentary that appeals to a certain age group or criteria. In a traditional documentary they use the original conventions such as giving evidence and there point of view depending on the topic of the documentary. Traditional Documentary would be shown on mainstream TV but this genre of documentary are not because not every one would have an interest in the topic so mainstream would allow other people to pick from shows. A special interest documentary can also be a spin off by only producing one episode.
911 what really happened is a Special Interest Documentary because of the way it was filmed. this documentary was filmed with out a presenter and with archive footage to show as evidence. This is also a special documentary because it goes over other facts of why it happened and simply its different because its a spin off. This documentary isn't one that would come on mainstream TV out of respect to the people that had lost someone
Britain's really disgusting food is a special interest documentary because it wouldn't appeal to everyone and its gets a point across in the title that they will be looking a disgusting food. This is a special documentary because it wouldn't really be shown on mainstream TV because no one would watch it but its most likely to be viewed on food channels. Also this documentary is a special interest one because it has a very specific audience I think it would be all parents because it shows them what's in food hey give to there children.
The Imposter
The Imposter is a special interest documentary because it was a spin of show about who had gone missing and was founded in Spain but the boy was the imposter and planned his way to america to live with a family . This here is a convention. This is a strong and interesting premise because there was a back story and that what made the idea strong. At 049 seconds archive footage is being shown of a family get together for a birthday party this video had the real child that went missing. They put in the archive footage because they wanted to clearly show you how the family was ad how close they were together when they are in the same house. after the archive footage was shown at 1:22 The sister didn't a short 3 seconds voice over to the graphics. You could say this documentary did have experts in the video, the experts would be the Mother and Sister experts of controlling there emotions. The editing at 2:24 was there to create a visual to the audience and let the listen to the phone call to the police. This is one of the reasons that this is a stand alone documentary. The other reason's are the photos and the footage. During the video there was voice overs but only when they were explaining the images in the photo book However presentation of facts was included because they wanted to inform people about "catfish" and how the effect people emotions
Make over show
A make over show is when a person goes through a changer were you can tell the diffrent its like before and after. A make over show can also change the way some one or something looks or change a persons life completely. Some shows do not base it around people there are shows that do it on homes and how clean it is and even some shows are changing the look of a car.
A extreme make over show is 60 minuet make over as a person is picked based on how there past has been and someone wants to do something nice for them. The team has 60 minuets to transform a house to a nice one. To complete the house in 60 minuets they have to use a number of experts to help during each episode and they they show how its changed before and after
Hotel inspector is a make over show because she first inspects the hotel by each room and then she talks to the owners about it and then they do he make over to the hotel to be one that people would like to stay in . Also in the show they try to show the building stages to the hotel and how they have improved the toilets the bed rooms and the kitchen.
Pimp My Ride is a make over show based on turning cars that are warn out to be brand new again. In this example the VW Golf mk2 was warn out and did look like he needed a new car but he contacted Pimp my ride where they proceeded to make elements to make the car new again . This show is completely diffrent to the other make over shows because they don't really sow any archive footage hey make a point about the and then they give evidence for example at the back of the car at 3:51 he spoke about the speakers and he tried to cover it cup and then they give visual evidence and show the audience. At 8:52 the use of experts were when they were all gathered around a table and they were talking about the changes they were going to make to the car.
A chat show is where a presenter would talk to the guest about their life's and what they would be doing in the future. Some chat shows can be on the serious note aswell because they talk about every day issues or changes that cause conflict to another person or people.
Jeremy Kyle is a chat show because people with real life problems come on to ask for help from experts. At 0:05 audience participation is high because the presenter/ expert walking through the audience to say welcome to the show to the audience at home and the audience. Also at 1:31 the presenter repeats what the guest say to make the male a victim and make the female look like the villain. Some times on the show, well most of the time they make the guest look like fools to make a profit then they offer the guest with expert help to improve there relationships.At 0:36 they keep switching between guest to show the audience more of the conflict so they debate about a child or a relationship.
Another example of a chat show is Alan Carr chatty man. In this show its a little more up beat and more interactive with the audience because it would be shown to 18-32 years old after a long day its one of them shows that make you laugh but in a chat show form.
Another great example is The Jonathan Ross show its the same as chatty man light hearted and to be viewed after work. They also have guest on the show but its not like Jeremy kyle were they make them look like fools and then offer them help Its a show with "Banter"
Magazine Show
An example of a Magazine show is the One show. The one show is a magazine show because we see an interview take place with a presenter and a guest but they all aloud to freely move in the studio . The interview that takes place is the presenter asking question to the guest about them self but not to personal the also play games with the guest to not make the show boring.
Another magazine show is blue peter. This show is for children so they do include alot of games to keep them watching but they also educate them with facts about topics with experts coming on the show. They also allow people to contact the through letters and they would be shown on TV so there is some level of audience participation
Top Gear is a magazine show because they are producing facts for the audience but then they are also proving a point. Right from the start on the video at 0:02 a montage comes on the screen of what coming up on the show with a voice over of the presenter. At 1:40 there is a voice over from a presenter talking about what's the is good for hut you can also hear music in the background to match the flow of the presentation. At 1:47 even though he is still driving the presenter still maintenance eye contact with the audience because he wants to be talk to them. However at 6:18 they change from a pre recorded video to the studio so that you can see the audience there and so that the show can officially start with the great "BANTER" that is among the three presenters. At 18:48 they have an interview with two guest that would ask question like what were your first three cars and why and then once they have answers the presenter can be judgemental about the cars so they can quickly put a star in a car and show the audience the lap on the race track. During the video when the interview was taking place the the presenter presented facts to the guest and they replied to them if it was false or if it was the truth

In this vice documentary the main
story behind the video was a undercover police officer asking people
to buy or sell him weed so that the department that he worked for got more
money for the program of harassing disabled students to buy drugs so
they cay be on they have a criminal record. Jesse Snotgrass.
This young man was a teenager like myself in his final year in high school
but Jesse had alsymers which is a communication disability so it was
hard for him to find friends till one day he made a friend with in the first
30 seconds of the video you could hear the emotion in his voice when he’s
friend walked in the room with his police uniform on you could also hear
the disappointment in himself after the interview as
he spanned pasted all the questions without a lawyer that wasn't provided
or even asked.
The level of mode of address between the presenter
and the audience was outstanding because the preened would always ask
the audience question like what you would do in this situation. At 0:50
the presenter was talking over a video about the whole situation
and how it happened i think this was a good
idea because right from the start they went in to the
cctv footage from the interview and didn't really explain
what they were going to talk about. At 2:20 when the presenter asked the first
question he wasn't looking at the camera but he
was looking at the parents getting interviewed because off the matter. This
would still be a high level of involvement because of the fact
that when the presenter asked the question the camera shot was on him and
not anyone else. This was also when the presenter finally got introduced to the
viewers with graphics saying his name.
the editing in
the documentary really did make the whole video
flow because there wasn't a lot of story's with
in the documentary but the cuts were
abit strange for example the timing between it went from jesses story
to the second story didn't really have an impact toward me
as a viewer it was like oh it changed (at 9:44) it also did look messy in
a fact because it went from the presenter saying
"it’s not a drug raid it’s just kids being kids" to the cut then
going to the next story from out of nowhere. The same
thing happened again but with an interview with someone
from the police department at 15:46 they show a pan of a gun and
then introduce someone new after the cut.
The music to voice
over wasn't really noticeable because of the topic.
The topic its self was keeping the audience distracted from noticing
the voice over because Jesse's story was so strong. However when it was
noticed at the start after they show the CCTV footage at 0:30 they cut in to
footage explaining the story and giving facts to the audience.
Another time that there was a voice over was at 15:46 when it was the pan of
the gun the officer in charge introduced himself when the shot was the pan.
Within the whole documentary there was
archive footage but very little amounts of it the first one that you would
notice was at 0:10 the CCTV footage from the interview with Jesse. They put the
Archive footage first because its different and you could tell that
it was real and not fake however if they wanted to go back to the footage
later it would be hard to pin point what part because it was
30 seconds worth of footage . Overall the footage was mostly
their own and mostly their own interviews with every one that took part.
Objectivity VS Subjectivity- throughout
the whole video objectivity prevailed because vice wanted to
tell people all the facts to the stories. Thorough out
the document at every minuet there was a fact or a true statement.
However there still
was subjectivity in the documentary at 18:26 the
presenter was giving his own opinion about the building and the
police department they did this because they wanted to prove a
point which was valid.

go straight in to the action from sending the presenter for a first-hand experience of navigation
a person though a dangerous area. I personally think they did
this because it attracts the audience and it
makes the introduction to the documentary interesting and different.
the mode of address that the presenter gives is different because he doesn't directly
look in to the camera he looks away as if he was asking the person a
question the presenter in the above. At 0:43 for example he’s looking
away from the camera scouting his location and the camera that he was
using is a GoPro. Another example is when he was interviewing the
sniper expert he was looking directly at him and focusing on the
speaker and not the question at 10:34.
I think that the editing of this video was better
from the above only because it made more sense to the
audience because it didn't cut from an interview
to another interview. A cut that i really liked was at the
start when they kept cutting back to the camera in the action
with the presenter this added more of an thrill factor to it and made
it interesting also made the audience stay and watch
this happens at 0:41
In this style
of documentary there wasn't really a lot of music or voice
overs because it was more of a factual video telling people
with different forms of communication the most they used was
interviews with people that work for PMC at 4:47 there’s a clip of a man with a
gun in combat with commentary over the video
about what's going on.
The balance between the archive footage to
original footage is quite high during the documentary. At
the start of the video there's archive footage also the archive
footage is showed before every interview and shown clips at the end
of the footage to be able to cut to the next scene at 5:50.
In this documentary it’s
mainly focused on giving people the facts but then it less if focusing on opinions
about the private military contractors and how they operate. At
