News Report Conventions

In news reports the producers try to use six different conventions to set the reports out different from each other. The conventions used are:

• Field Reporters 
• Links to Studio
• Mode of Address to Viewer
• Interviewing Experts and Witnesses
• Report Structure
• Actuality Footage 

Theses six conventions are the main ones that news reports try to use when they cover a story. Each one of the conventions is set up to link together when it comes to the editing before it is then broadcast. 

This news report is a link to the studio from Sderot, Israel. One of the conventions used in this news report is Field Reports. A field report is when they embed a reporter at the heart of the situation. Throughout the whole news report/ interview the costume that was worn was a light blue shirt to show enemies that he is press and not a target as the reporter was in the heart of Israel action. The levels of involvement shown by the reporter was high because he gave his own opinions and backed them up by show a video at 0:46. The level of involvement was quite high as the reporter was from Israel and wanted to show pride in his country for retaliation. The choice of the presenter is n important task they want to relate to the situation and have their own views that won’t change depending on the change of situation. However the news reporter in Israel gender was male because you wouldn't associate a female with war or any type of fighting for their country. The ethnicity of the reporter is from Israel and is white. On the other hand the graphics at 0:06 are showing the different story's in the day with a moving to the left animation. Also at 0:06 sky news were advertising the different means to stay in touch with them when the reporter was on the field. Within this video you can also clearly see a link to the studio throughout the video. 

On the top right of the screen at 1:17 you can see they provide the audience with reinsurance that the news report is live and not pre-recorded. The location is the same as the graphic of "live" the location is also next to the "live" graphic at 1:18 say the location "Israel". Throughout the whole news report the camera stayed on mid shot on both reporters. The report structure in news report was quite a simple one because they would have the link to the studio and ask questions about the filed reporter’s opinions. Right from the start of the production the news reporter in the studio introduced himself and introduced the field reporter so they could get straight to the point at 0:02. During the news report there wasn't any archive footage shown to prove any of the reporter’s points; there were no interviews form any vox pops to prove the points that the field reporter has made. At 0:03 the news reporter in the studio introduces the location of the field reporter and himself. However During the news report there was actuality footage near the end of the report. At 2:22 however they don't say who it was from in the graphics or even thanking the person. The reason they used the footage was to prove the point that the studio reporter had made so they are providing evidence for their claim. Not a lot was used only from 2:22 till 2:30 8 seconds long.

This This news report is linked to the mode of address to the viewer. Also it is linked to Interviewing experts and witnesses and even victims. The first conversion I would be addressing is mode of address to the viewer and how they communicate with those watching from home. The first is the victim that is being interviewed his tone of voice varied from low to high when he really wanted to get his point across as if he was getting angry at 0:46. For the accent the interview was taken place in the Russian language and therefore they needed a translator to translate for the views at home. The language used was vocabulary that you would use in a everyday life style without any complex terminology. The final conversion I will be looking at is interviewing experts and witness. The camera techniques used in the news report were mid shots and close up's to show his emotions. At 0:40 the title that was given to the victim is TV HOST going back to his past. As Litvinenko was a expert in military defence he did some times reply in a manner where he would refer to his past and that was the reason he was blamed.
